Paceman Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The England team reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

The English side has been without fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
